What of the Missing?

Today I read a story in New York Magazine discussing the disappearance of Sneha Phillip, an medical intern from Manhattan who went missing the day before September 11, 2001.

On September 10, 2001, Sneha Phillip shopped at Century 21 near her Battery Park apartment, and never returned home that evening. Because no one found it odd-they assumed she stayed over at a friends place-it wasn't until the planes hit the trade centers did her family truly begin to worry. Until this day, they have had no luck in proving she died as part of the attacks; all they know is she never returned home. She vanished into thin air.

Despite the facts, the stories, the police reports and unresolved discrepancies between the stories, lies the tale of a disappearance which has disabled the family from truly receiving closure.

The story goes to say that because she's been missing since 9/10/01, they cant prove her disappearance has anything to do with the events of September 11. During an investigation, police believed she lived a dual life, and perhaps the key to her vanishment lay in the details of her other life.

Regardless, the family-her mother, husband, brother and father must now, 5 years later, reconcile her death.

Instead of perhaps calling her a martyr, the city has excluded her from the list of those who perished on 9/11.

So what happened to the stories, before and after 9/11. On 9/10 or 9/12? What of those lives, the lives of people who deserve answers or at least an investigation.

What of Sneha?
